An aneurysm, as The Los Angeles Times explained, is\u00a0a weak point in one of the brain&#8217;s blood vessels.\u00a0Those can\u00a0burst due to stress, causing internal bleeding. But researchers wanted to find out what kind of stresses prompt such hemorrhaging.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2011\/may\/05\/news\/la-heb-brain-aneurysm-20110505\">http:\/\/articles.latimes.com\/2011\/may\/05\/news\/la-heb-brain-aneurysm-20110505<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>To try to identify specifically what causes these ruptures, during a three-year period the study had 250 people who had suffered subarachnoid hemorrhages\u00a0complete a questionnaire on 30 &#8220;potential trigger factors&#8221; during the period before the person had his or her hemorrhage.\u00a0<\/p>\r\n<p>The study ultimately identified eight triggers:\u00a0coffee consumption;\u00a0cola consumption; anger;\u00a0being startled;\u00a0&#8220;straining for defecation&#8221;;<sup>\u00a0<\/sup>sexual intercourse;\u00a0nose blowing;<sup> <\/sup>and vigorous physical exercise.<\/p>\r\n<p><sup>\u00a0<\/sup>The highest population-attributable risks were found for coffee<sup> <\/sup>consumption (10.6 percent) and vigorous physical exercise (7.9 percent).<sup> <\/sup><\/p>\r\n<p>The study&#8217;s conclusion?<\/p>\r\n<p>&#8220;We identified and quantified eight trigger factors for aneurysmal<sup> <\/sup>rupture,&#8221; it said. &#8220;All triggers induce a sudden and short increase in<sup> <\/sup>blood pressure, which seems a possible common cause for aneurysmal<sup> <\/sup>rupture.
