{"id":403,"date":"2010-04-28T11:09:59","date_gmt":"2010-04-28T17:09:59","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/waiting.com\/blog\/?p=403"},"modified":"2010-04-28T11:09:59","modified_gmt":"2010-04-28T17:09:59","slug":"singer-bret-michaels-has-setback-that-could-lead-to-seizures","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/waiting.com\/blog\/2010\/04\/singer-bret-michaels-has-setback-that-could-lead-to-seizures.html","title":{"rendered":"Singer Bret Michaels Has Setback That Could Lead To Seizures"},"content":{"rendered":"\r\n<p>Rocker Bret Michaels, stricken with a brain hemorrhage, has taken a turn for the worse, according to a medical update posted on his Facebook page Tuesday night.\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BretMichaels?v=app_2347471856\">http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BretMichaels?v=app_2347471856<\/a><\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0\u201cTest results indicate a setback in Bret Michaels condition a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia a lack of sodium in the body which leads to seizures,\u201d Tuesday\u2019s message said. <br \/><br \/><\/p>\r\n<p>The update was very detailed about Michaels, who has been hospitalized in critical condition in an intensive care unit since late last Thursday. He is under 24-hour observation but in \u201cpositive spirits,\u201d according to the update.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0The message also said that although in critical condition, Michaels is stable.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0\u201cEven though today was a minor setback doctors remain hopeful for a full recovery and plan to release more specific information next Monday,\u201d the Facebook posting said.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0The update noted that CNN\u2019s \u201cLarry King Live\u201d did a sho won Michaels\u2019 earlier in the week. Dr. Sanjay Gupta, CNN&#8217;s chief medical correspondent, said that the subarachnoid hemorrhage that Michaels suffered is an aneurysm in one of the blood vessels. He said that about 10 percent of people with that condition don&#8217;t survive; another quarter of people don&#8217;t make it through the first couple of days in the hospital; and 30 percent make a full recovery. <br \/><br \/>\u201dMichaels&#8217; medical workup demonstrated findings of a subarachnoid hemorrhage, a type of stroke that causes bleeding in the fluid-filled spaces around the base of the brain,\u201d Michaels\u2019 Facebook page says.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0\u201cIt presents itself suddenly as the sound of a loud gunshot or thunderclap at the back of the head causing severe cranial pain and muscle spasms,\u201d the posting said. \u201cMany people are speculating Michaels head injury suffered from a prop striking the singer at the Tony awards last June is the cause.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0Michaels will undergo tests this week to try to find the exact cause of the rupture. Since the singer is a lifelong Type 1 diabetic, and recently underwent emergency appendectomy surgery while on tour in San Antonio, he will remain monitored closely by his medical team to make sure no complications occur from the diabetes. <br \/><br \/>The medical update says that the most common cause of Michaels\u2019 hemorrhage is a spontaneous rupture of a cerebral aneurysm, but \u201cthat 15 to 20 percent of spontaneous episodes of this hemorrhage are found to have no cause.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0\u00a0Michaels has undergone a continuous series of tests while in the ICU including angiograms, CT scans, MRI\u2019s and transcranial dopplers (TCD&#8217;s).<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0\u201cDoctors state Michaels is very lucky as his condition could have been fatal,\u201d the Facebook posting said. \u201cWith further testing and rehabilitation, they are hopeful that Bret will gradually improve as the blood surrounding the brain dissolves and is reabsorbed into his system, which can be a very painful recovery and take several weeks to months.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0Michaels is responding well to tests and treatments, according to the Facebook posting.<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0The message noted that CNN\u2019s \u201cLarry King Live\u201d did a show this week about Michaels, where Donald Trump talked about the Poison frontman, who is a contestant on Trump\u2019s \u201cCelebrity Apprentice.\u201d<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0&#8220;Bret is very likable guy, down to earth and a solid person,&#8221; Trump said. \u201cOut of all the people from &#8216;Celebrity Apprentice,&#8217; I may have had the best kind of off-camera relationship with him over the three years.&#8221;<\/p>\r\n<p>\u00a0Trump also said Michaels is a good father, and that he is concerned for the singer\u2019s health.<\/p>\r\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rocker Bret Michaels, stricken with a brain hemorrhage, has taken a turn for the worse, according to a medical update posted on his Facebook page Tuesday night.\u00a0\u00a0http:\/\/www.facebook.com\/BretMichaels?v=app_2347471856 \u00a0\u201cTest results indicate a setback in Bret Michaels condition a side effect from the brain hemorrhage called hyponatremia a lack of sodium in the body which leads to [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":2,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[1],"tags":[554,561,560,562,552],"class_list":["post-403","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-uncategorized","tag-bret-michaels","tag-bret-michaels-brain-hemorrhage","tag-bret-michaels-prognosis","tag-hyponatremia","tag-subarachnoid-hemorrhage"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.5 -
